A very busy & exciting week ! ( Part 1): ICE-BREAKING
>> Saturday, May 2, 2009
Salam
Alhamdulillah, here I am again. Pheww........after the last posting on April 27th, I was practically kept very occupied by my teaching activities.
On 28 & 29 April - ada Bengkel Latihan Fasilitator Kem PPD 3 di PPUKM. Lecturers (Professors, Assoc. Profs & lecturers) Medic Fac UKM ni kena dilatih utk. jadi fasilitator outdoor kem modul Perkembangan Kendiri dan Profesionalisme (PPD) ke3 yang diadakan utk. pelajar Tahun 5 (akhir). This year - Kem PPD 3 akan diadakan di Kuala Besut T'ganu pada 1 - 5 Jun 2009 ( kebetulan B'day Dr.Har - June 1st, and anniversary sharing my life with my dearest Ustz Zul on June 2nd pulak tu!)
In this training session - I have to teach them ( the lecturers) how to ice-break the newly formed student groups of 12 persons per group.
As usual, I have to ice-break the lecturers first! Bukan senang, walaupun dah bertahun-tahun kenal sebab kerja tempat sama, not necessarily the ice has been broken! Would like to share some tips how to facilitate an ice-breaking session:
1. Kita sendiri kena kena tunjukkan minat & enthuasism yang tinggi nak berkenalan dgn semua yang ada. Intonasi suara, air muka, twinkling of the eyes and of course, body language lain kena sincerely show your enthuasism. Kalau hati sebenarnya tak `gumbira', group members memang boleh perasan.
2. Introduce yourself FIRST! Be VERY SINCERE - tell the group what you want them to know about yourself - be honest and never lie!
3. Spend the next two- three minutes to explain the word & meaning of ice-breaking . Rupa2nya, depa ambil nama tu dari `Ice-breakers' - kapal besar yang digunakan utk. langgar ice blocks kat North as well as South Poles - during exploration & expeditions.
ICE ni - sejuk & cold , perlukan suhu sekitaran ditingkatkan utk. MENCAIRKANnya. Oleh itu everyone must try to increase the WARMTH by smiling, start engaging in conversation, getting interested etc. so dgn itu ICE tadi akan mencair perlahan-lahan. Namun jangan sampai suhu terlalu tinggi hingga sampai ke boiling point pulak, nanti mendidih dan menggelegak lah pulak!
Jangan lupa ingatkan semua utk. maintain the WARMTH, sebab kalau tidak dikekalkan suhu yang hangat tu, apatah lagi kalau dropping balik semula, ICE tadi akan RE-FORMED! Cantik sungguh analogi ICE-BREAKING ni sebenarnya!
4. Then go around the group. Buat aktiviti yang mudah dulu, peringkat demi peringkat gi aktiviti yang lebih kompleks.
5. At least empat aktiviti mudah, InsyaAllah if you have about 30-45 minit - moga2 group tu akan mantap hubungan silaturrahim sesama mereka.
Dipendekkan cerita, Alhamdulillah the sessions were successful. I managed to keep most of them to stay on dari pagi sampai pukul 5pm to go through the training session. NOW, that was indeed an achievement, commented one of my junior lecturers - memandangkan kita faham benar perangai senior staff ni, esp kalau training session buat di PPUKM sendiri. Sat-sat pager bunyilah, handphone pulak tu, tahu-tahu - minta excuse sebab OT ( operation theatre) @ clinic @ ward panggil!
Apapun, Dr.Har berdoa agar KEM PPD 3 will be successful! InsyaAllah, lepas ni kita jumpa dalam Part (2 ) & Part (3) pulak yer!
Love you all : Dr.Har
